COMMUNITY COVID-19 Risk Dial:

Updated 7/28/20 via South Heartland District Health Department (SHDHD)

What is Happening Now?

This COVID-19 Risk Dial provides a summary of current conditions in the South Heartland District.

The Risk Dial Guidance provides action information for each risk level (color), incorporating federal and national guidance published by top public health experts. There is specific guidance for the general public and for at-risk and vulnerable populations in various settings, including at home, or outside the home (at work, in social settings, or in public). This is only guidance and does not replace federal, state, or local directed health measures. At-risk and vulnerable populations should take stringent precautions. Click on the links below to view the Risk Dial Guidance.

July 28, 2020 Risk Dial Update:

The risk dial remained at 1.9 this week, which keep sour district at the top of the moderate risk level. Some factors that contribute to the risk level have improved and others have worsened. Overall, the risk for the entire health district is essentially the same as last week.

  • Weekly positivity rate decreased to 5.1% from 7.5% the week prior
  • ICU availability was improved
  • Average time from symptom onset to isolation was shorter for the cases reported last week
  • Number of cases increased (net increase of 42%) over the previous week
  • COVID-19 testing availability was lower
  • Compliance with the directed health measures was a concern this past week due to large gatherings that had not submitted the required safety plans, as well as gatherings where physical distancing was not followed
  • Mask use: a few stores put mask policies in place and some graduation ceremonies required or encouraged cloth face coverings, but mask use in general is not widespread

NSAA Return to Activities Plan

Note from Jay Bellar, Executive Director of NSAA:

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and doing their best to keep safe as we try to navigate this pandemic that we find ourselves dealing with currently. You will find attached an NSAA document that is intended to provide guidance for member schools in conjunction with Directed Health Measures and local health officials. It may also be used if conditions dictate the need for future restrictions. This plan is not intended to be a one size fits all, but rather to assist in decision-making for all NSAA sanctioned athletics and activities and may be applied to 7th and 8th grade school-sponsored athletic and activities as well. Please know that the NSAA realizes that the decision to participate in NSAA sanctioned athletics and activities is a local decision and you will be working with your local health departments to do what is best for your students.

Diocese of Lincoln: Prayer for a New School Year

Lord Jesus, we ask for Your help as we prepare for this new school year. Allow us to experience Your presence in the many blessings You place before us. Open our eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year will bring. Open our heart and mind to new friends and new teachers. Give us a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with our studies and courage to accept new challenges. Help us to be attentive to what is asked of us and flexible as changes in procedures and routines this year will be necessary. Help us to always remember you are with us, and we are beloved sons and daughters of Our Father, who never leaves us alone. Jesus, along with the Holy Spirit, inspire me to do my best and be my best this year. Amen.
